The ANZVS Dermatopathology Prize will be awarded to the best presentation of a case study by either a Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) anatomical pathology trainee or early career pathologist OR an Australasian College of Dermatologist (ACD) accredited Registrar or early career dermatologist at the Specialist Pathology Workshop.


Eligibility

An applicant must be a registered trainee of the RCPA or ACD, or a Fellow of the RCPA or ACD of fewer than 10 years. Previous winners

are ineligible to apply.


Prize

The successful recipient receives AUD $1,000 and a commemorative plaque.

Disclaimer: In the event of a tie between two or more eligible applicants for the ANZVS Dermatopathology Prize, the prize money will be equally shared among the winners. Each recipient will receive an equal portion of the total prize amount, which is AUD $1,000. The decision of the judging panel is final and no appeals will be considered.


Assessment Criteria

All abstract submissions are assessed on:

  • The clinicopathological content and relevance of the topic/presentation
  • The contribution this case makes to existing knowledge
  • Educational and interest value of the case
  • Quality of the presentation
  • Response to questions
  • Timekeeping

The award review panel will select cases from submissions that will progress to presentation at the ANZVS Specialist Pathologist Workshop.

Selection Process

If you are selected to make an oral presentation, prepare your case in consultation with your supervisor. Supervisors are encouraged to attend the

session to support their trainee and provide expert comments.

The oral presentations will be assessed by a judging panel as determined by ANZVS.

On the day of the presentation:

  1. Presenter gives a presentation of up to 20 minutes (ideally 15mins plus 5mins Q&A).
  2. Following the presentation, the session chair will open the floor to the judging panel and audience to ask questions regarding the facts of the case, to be answered by the trainee.
  3. The judging panel will assess each presentation on the:
  • quality of presentation     
  • educational value of the case
  • discussion of the literature and knowledge displayed
  • response to questions

The Prize recipient will be announced at the conclusion of the Specialist Pathology Workshop.

ANZVS reserves the right not to award the Prize if no presentation meets a sufficient standard.


Attendance at Specialist Pathology Workshop

Workshop registration fees will be waived for successful applicants. Travel costs are to be covered by the applicant.

Guidelines

Authors must submit a separate abstract for each presentation put forward for consideration

  • Submission of Abstracts is open 1 May 2026 to 1 October 2026
  • Abstracts must be submitted via the online Abstract Portal
  • Abstracts should be no longer than 250 words
  • Receipt of your abstract will be acknowledged as soon as it has been received and checked
  • All submitted abstracts will be considered and the successful applicants notified by 9 October 2026
  • If the presentation includes clinical photos, presenters must ensure they have written consent from the patient


Abstract Format

Title

  • Title should be a maximum of 25 words in length
  • Title should be descriptive, clearly identifying the key theme of the presentation
  • Do not use abbreviations in the title

Author/s

  • Name
  • Include professional titles (e.g. Dr, Prof) and qualifications (e.g. MBBS, FRCPA)
  • Affiliation (place of work)
  • Conflict of interest declared

Text

  • Abstracts should be a maximum of 250 words
  • Use standard abbreviations only
